Free Chick In Egg Amigurumi Pattern

This is a free amigurumi pattern, based on a chick in an egg. This is an updated version of the pattern that I created in March 2024.

You can use this plushie as a gift, but please do not distribute, sell or claim the pattern as your own.

Crochet hook size: 3.00mm

Yarn type: Stylecraft Special DK

Yarn colours:

  • White (100g) x1
  • Lemon (100g) x1
  • Clementine (100g) x1

Other materials required:

  • Stitch marker
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Tapestry needle (for sewing)

Note: Unless instructed otherwise, this pattern is mostly done in spirals. I recommend you use a stitch marker, to keep track of where you start each round.

Bottom Egg Shell

Start with white

Round 1: 8dc in mr (8 sts)

Round 2: [inc] x8 (16 sts)

Round 3: [dc, inc] x8 (24 sts)

Round 4: [dc, inc, dc] x4 (32 sts)

Round 5: 32dc (32 sts)

Round 6: [3dc, inc] x8 (40 sts)

Rounds 7-11 (5 rounds): 40dc (40 sts)

Round 12 (FLO): [ss, ch, dc] in next st, [tr, dtr] in next st, [dtr, tr] in next st, dc [dc, [tr, dtr] in next st, [dtr, tr] in next st, dc] x9 (60 sts (Note: The ss and ch you've made at the start of this round do not count))

Ss in ch, FO, hide tail

Body/Head

Start at the body with lemon

Round 1 (BL of round 12 of the bottom egg shell): insert in the 1st st of round 12 as a dc, 39dc (40 sts)

Round 2: [4dc, dec, 4dc] x4 (36 sts)

Round 3: 36dc (36 sts)

Round 4: [7dc, dec] x4 (32 sts)

Round 5: 32dc (32 sts)

Round 6: [3dc, dec, 3dc] x4 (28 sts)

Round 7: 28dc (28 sts)

Round 8: [5dc, dec] x4 (24 sts)

Rounds 9-10 (2 rounds): 24dc (24 sts)

Stuff firmly at this point

Start of head

Round 11: [dc, inc, dc] x8 (32 sts)

Round 12: 32dc (32 sts)

Sew the top egg shell to the head, adding more stuffing as you go

Wings (Make 2)

Start with lemon

Round 1: 4dc in mr (4 sts)

Round 2: [inc] x4 (8 sts)

Round 3: 8dc (8 sts)

Round 4: [dc, inc] x4 (12 sts)

Rounds 5-8 (4 rounds): 12dc (12 sts)

Round 9: [2dc, dec, 2dc] x2 (10 sts)

Round 10: 10dc (10 sts)

FO, leave a long tail for sewing

Do not stuff

Sew the wings onto the body, on rounds 6-9. Make sure they're sewn at a slight angle, so that there's a 9-st gap at the top, and 14-st gap at the bottom.

Feet (Make 2)

7ch with clementine

Round 1: skip 1st ch from the hook, 6dc in the BL, rotate work, 6dc along the other side of the ch (12 sts)

Rounds 2-4 (3 rounds): 12dc (12 sts)

Round 5: [dec, 4dc] x2 (10 sts)

Rounds 6-7 (2 rounds): 10dc (10 sts)

Round 8: [dec] x5 (5 sts)

FO, leave a long tail for sewing

Sew the opening to close

Sew onto the bottom egg shell, on rounds 3-5.

Beak

5ch with clementine

Round 1: skip 1st ch from the hook, [3dc, 3dc in next st] in the BL, rotate work, [2dc, inc in next st] along the other side of the ch (10 sts)

Round 2: 10dc (10 sts)

Ss in next st

FO, leave a long tail for sewing

Sew the beak onto the front of the head, between rounds 16-17

For the eyes, embroider with black yarn on rounds 18-19, 5 sts in between.
